The goal of Fashion Heals in 2016 is to raise awareness and funds for the SickKids Innovation Grant for Paediatric Cancer Care and Research by creatively showcasing accomplishments and impacts of the hospital’s team. The highlight of the event is a vibrant fashion show styled by la closette, featuring 10 ‘models’, all of whom are either SickKids employees or past patients.

We’re enthusiastic to profile and share fun insights about each Fashion Heals model before the event on Wednesday, April 20, 2016.

Ari Randall

Registered Nurse in the SickKids Hospital NICU since 2008. I have worked in the NICU as a bedside nurse, preceptor, clinical navigator, educator and now back at the bedside. Worked as a volunteer in the emergency dept from 2004 to 2007.

Why do you want to participate in Fashion Heals?

This looks like a very fun experience. I friend of mine recommended me and I figured, why not?! It’s all for a great cause. I am always looking for ways to give back to a great cause.

Your most memorable experience at SickKids:

I wouldn’t say I have one specific memorable experience, I do however have a favourite moment:

when a family gets to take their baby home for the first time.

This doesn’t happen very often from our NICU, but when it does, it’s a true gift.  The other gift, is when parents come back months and years later to visit. The light you can see in parents’ eyes at this moment says it all!

You don’t realize the impact one can have on a family until later on in that family’s life.

What languages do you speak?

Spanish and English

Where did you grow up?

Lima, Peru, and at nine years old, we moved to Oakville, Ontario.

What advice would you give to your childhood self?

Play outside more often

What book has influenced you the most?

The 5 love languages

What’s on your bucket list?

Sky diving, travelling to Fiji, hiking through the Inca trails into Machu Pichu, Peru. Volunteer for a travel nursing opportunity abroad!

What’s your most memorable fashion moment?

When I was in grade 10, I was part of a fashion show at my high school. I can’t remember the reason for this fashion show, but I remember having the time of my life!

Your next clothing or accessory purchase will be:

A fun girls night out type of outfit

What fashion trend did you embrace wholeheartedly, but now wonder “what was I thinking!”?

Wearing baggy, boy-type clothes when I was about 14. I have NO IDEA what I was thinking!

How can la closette help you?

I love trying new and exciting things. I am all in for fun or classy! I don’t know much about fashion so I would love someone to just dress me and tell me what kind of clothes suit me best and are most flattering.
